Sid Loves Turbo has been mincing around with a lot of disco and pop lately, so this time around we go back to the source with an all-Turbo tribute. I was sent this mix by a guy called Duff, a Spanish DJ who writes an impressive looking music blog. I can’t read Spanish, but it’s nice to see someone writing pages about music with no free download links.
He’s a big fan of the label and he paid his respects with a great retrospective.
The mix is a bit rough around the edges… but I thought it was a well chosen selection of some of Turbo’s finest moments, and deserved to get some extra exposure. Hope you enjoy it!
Check out this excellent interview on his site from Jori Hulkkonen (this one is in English):

Podcast vol.31 (by Julien Plaisir De (Sweetlight))

Julien Plaisir De returns with a podcast dedicated to ’summer love’, Parisian style. Please note that if you’re not French, you’ll still enjoy most of this mix but there’ll be a few that you’ll be biologically forced to skip. The A&R police at Turbo were able to forgive the obvious indulgences because we ARE true romantics at heart (even if OUR idea of romance is a six hour 303 symphony). I’ve recently had the pleasure of staying with Julien in his adorable apartment in Paris and I’m pleased to report that this mix legitimately sounds a lot like his life feels – like a cross between a Wes Anderson and Eric Rohmer film. Enjoy!

‘Diskokaine’ is a Viennese producer, DJ and label owner who, along with the Dutch Clone crew is at the forefront of the Italo ‘revival’. Disco revivalism never seems to go anywhere, the revolution never happens, but it also never dies out completely… but 2008 seems to have some real momentum for the movement, with labels like Italians Do It Better, DFA, Clone and Diskokaine putting out quality stuff.
Enjoy this short mix, check out his crazy myspace profile, and get the Sally Shapiro album on Diskokaine records.

Tom Boy and Fredski are the two hard partying Danes behind Tartelet Records. Tom Boy is best known for being the drummer in ‘Who Made Who’, and his releases on Gomma and Turbo.

Jori Hulkkonen puts other podcasters to shame. He’s a brilliant selector and presenter and of course an incredible producer. This podcast includes a world premier of his remix for Presets, some long lost 80s & italo gems, and ends with a beautiful track off his just released album on F Communications ‘Errare Machinale Est’.

Berlin’s Oskar Melzer is a club-owning, Schnitzel-eating, trendy- DJ’ing, Lufthansa-traveling young man with impeccably great taste. His car is the dopest Jag you’ve ever seen. His home is the coolest place I’ve ever been. His girlfriend the Cobra makes the best de-tox breakfast in the world and is the voice of Turbo as well as MTV Germany. We have an exclusive interview with the man behind Weekend nightclub and a mix fresh out of the German techno-bubble. Pretty pretttttty good.

Our apologies for the mixup… but SLT.025 was mistakenly labeled as Duke Dumont. We uploaded the wrong podcast… it has now been corrected, so listen to the REAL Duke Dumont podcast!

London’s Duke Dumont sent us this recording of his live set. He’s down with Switch and Sinden and the Dubsided crew, but his big hit was on Turbo:)
New-school / Old-school / fake-rave / brave-wave for all the blogshitz in the house! Enjoy!!!

Skatebård (pronounced Skateboard) is the coolest guy to ever come out of Bergen, Norway… Erlend Oye being a distant second. Norwegians are for some reason obsessed with disco, and Skatebård is an expert on the Euro-centric subgenre of obscure Italo. I’m thrilled that he did this podcast for us, it’s incredible and complete with gentlemanly banter in his very exotic accent. AND, if you haven’t already, check out his album: ‘Midnight Magic’.

To celebrate the fiesta del amor on February 14th, Sid Loves Turbo will host its first event at Code Bar. Julien Plaisir De aka Sweetlight will be in town directly from Paris (where they specialize in Love!!). During the 5à7 he will also showcase a picture exhibition which will also appear in our Sid Lee Collective Gallery.

Here’s a little Bio on Julien :
Originally playing whatever makes noise in a dodgy Nantes pop group influenced by seminal bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Stone Roses and the like, Julien turned into DJ-ing in raves after being thrown into the dance craze in 1992 and dancing his ass off to Laurent Garnier, Luke Slater, Aquarium, Jeff Mills, Tom & Jerry Bouthier, Mike Ink… From there, Julien developed his DJ-ing style by playing all the key parties in the Brittany area in France and make his first international appearance in Amsterdam in 1999. He got his first breakthrough as a producer with Boris Hervé & S Rom as “Plaisir de France”, thanks to his encounter with the Pro Zak crew in 2000 and released several EPs that have being playlisted by DJs from all across the house board. However, his collaboration with Dan Ghenacia is what really put Julien on the international map. He started a production team under the name of Sweetlight & Dan Ghenacia and continued with the Sweetlight project with his production mate Alexis Desaegher on Dan Ghenacia’s label FreaK n’Chic.

So tell all your facebook friends and be there to groove with us in this first (of hopefully many) Sid Loves Turbo events.
